Stony Point Town Clerk race might be contested

April
25

On Tuesday, I received a call from June Jobson, chairwoman of the Stony Point Republican Committee. She told me about the committee’s nominations for the November local election.

The most interesting outcome was Megan Carey for town clerk. Carey has been working under Town Clerk Fran Mullin. In November 2005, incumbent Mullin, a Democrat, was the only candidate who ran unopposed in the crowded race.

Jobson said she believed that Mullin was retiring and that the Stony Point Democratic Committee might nominate Carey’s colleague, Joan Skinner, as its candidate for town clerk.

“It maybe difficult because they are friends, Jobson said of Carey and Skinner.

As a frequent visitor to the Town Clerk’s Office, I also worry about the friendship between the two women, Megan and Joan, who currently sit next to each other.

The Stony Point Democratic Committee’s nominations will be made at its convention May 24, the committee’s Chairman John Kezek said.
