Stony Point Town Clerk says she hasn't made any decisions on re-election

April

Stony Point Town Clerk Fran Mullin said today that she hasn’t made any decisions regarding the November election.

Earlier this week, the Stony Point Republican Committee nominated Megan Carey for town clerk.

The nomination stirred the small town government because Carey has been working under Town Clerk Fran Mullin, a Democrat, who has been training Deputy Town Clerk Joan Skinner as her successor.

June Jobson, chairwoman for the Stony Point Republican Committee, said she believed that Mullin was retiring and that the Stony Point Democratic Committee would nominate Skinner as its candidate for town clerk.

“It maybe difficult because they are friends,â€? Jobson said of Carey and Skinner, who sit next to each other at the Town Clerk’s Office.

But Mullin, who has been serving the town clerk position for nearly 25 years, said today that she hasn’t made any decisions on her re-election yet, adding that the Democratic Committee’s candidate screening is scheduled for May 19, so that she still has some time to think about it.

The Stony Point Democratic Committee’s nominations will be made at its convention May 24, the committee’s Chairman John Kezek said.
