Fried starts job with sheriff

After enduring several accusations of political patronage and wrongdoing, former Legislator David Fried very quietly started his job as Sheriff James Kralik’s public safety advocate on Monday.
The $65,000-a-year position, new this year, was created by Sheriff James Kralik, a Republican, to go after grant money and build community relations. Kralik has said since the position was first discussed last year the Fried, a Democrat, was one of the candidates he was considering.
Clarkstown Police Detective Sgt. Tim O’Neill, who unsuccessfully challenged Kralik for the sheriff seat last year, charged over the summer that Kralik was going to give the job to Fried in exchange for Fried leaving the Legislature to make way for newly elected Legislator Jacques Michel, one of Kralik’s deputies. Kralik, Fried and Michel have denied any involvement in any sort of job-swapping plot.
Fried said he supplied Kralik with a resume and about 20 references. He was also called in for an interview twice. “When it comes to public safety, it’s based upon qualifications … an not on politics,â€? Fried said yesterday.

Holy crap. This is beyond words. Such hubris. I believe Kralik used the term, “desperate words from a desperate man”, when O’Neill originally predicted this arrangement was in the works during the course of the election campaign. And here we sit, watching exactly what was predicted with Kralik and Fried not even blinking an eye of concern. There are thousands of law enforcement professionals from many differenct agencies living right here in Rockland. Many of these individuals have very impressive resumes and far reaching contacts. Yet, according to civillian David Fried, he is most qualified. I guess he got to decide that. Did he interview himself or did Kralik send a lackey (new Captain, next undersherrif to-be, next sherrif hopeful) to gloss over a mock interview with Fried? I wonder. Sickening.
Kralik talked about this job long before the election. And Fried’s interest was known before O’Neill jumped on it as a campaign tactic.
What O’Neill claimed without any proof anad based on political gossip was that Fried decided against seeking re-election so Michel would win, the Haitian vote would be happy and supporting Kralik, and as a payoff Kralik gave Fried this job. It sounded good, except Michel was likely to beat Fried anyway, and Michel and the Hatian vote backed Kralik anyway.
Oh really, FYI. Well then why would Kralik backpedal when asked about this convenient arrangement back in July? The Journal News even said, “something stinks” about this deal. They are right about that.
From what I read, Kralik always denied the so-called Michel deal as did Michel and Fried. And no one has proven otherwise. In fact the only person to raise that issue was O’Neill… Giving Fried the job or considering him for the job never was denied, not by kralik or fried.. If you something else, maybe you should go report it..
Just shows us that in Rockland County David Fried will sell out a good Democratic candidate for a price and a secure job. I happened to see the speech this Mr. Michel made after the 2008 Legislature all got sworn in and I certainly was not impressed. Like the other posters here, during last year I would see letters to the editor, etc hinting at this job coming to be, and here it is.
Shame on David Fried, and Sheriff Kralik. I’m glad I didn’t vote for Sheriff Kralik and I’m glad I didn’t vote for Jacque Michel. I voted for Mr. Ullman!!! In 4 yrs, both Michel and Kralik again will not have my support. I hope others will follow support. Dirty politics should not be supported.
