Flashy new veterans site

I was pleasantly surprised today to find that the Rockland County’s Veterans Service Agency Web site has been completely re-designed.
Gone is the drab, county-issue page that most of the departments are using. In it’s place is a patriotic, user-friendly site with downloadable forms and links to newsletters and support groups.
The site even offers a link to military humor (I notice that’s the top link, even before all the official military business.)
“It’s a step into the 21st century,” agency Director Jerry Donnellan said today.
Donellan said he is specifically trying to reach veterans coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan who are more comfortable using computers, but are not seeking help from the veterans administration.
“We’re not seeing them in the numbers that we should,” Donnellan said.
There still is a lot of white space on the site and it doesn’t allow for a lot of personal contact with others, but it is a vast improvement over the Web site of yore. And Donnellan said he’s planning to expand the site with more links and information.Good job!

My local newspaper started up a blog for veterans that veterans should check out, too.
