Does dog vote matter?

Nyack dog owners fighting for off-leash hours at Memorial Park stressed that they always clean up after their dogs and that the dogs and their owners benefit from socializing and exercising at the park.
But those reasons weren’t enough to shake the ick factor for some critics. The opposition’s argument went something like this: you can pick up the poop, but you can’t guarantee the grass will be clean. Plus, there was the children v. dog argument. Can dog owners guarantee that children will be safe from untethered dogs?
The Village Board voted against the off-leash dog hours at a meeting last month. See story here.
Of course, the truth is that dog owners have admittedly let their dogs go unleashed at the park during early morning hours for years. They were merely asking for permission to secure their place at Memorial Park because they worried they’d be pushed out by park renovations.
So as long as the leash laws continue to go unenforced, park-goers can continue to see Fido traipsing though the grass, free from tethers.
