Zugibe fundraiser tomorrow

It seems like only yesterday that Tom Zugibe won election as Rockland district attorney, ousting Republican Michael Bongiorno. It hasn’t been a year yet – and it’s been nine months since Zugibe took office.
Looking back to pay off some election costs and ahead to re-election year 2011, Zugibe’s election committee and the Rockland Democratic Party is co-hosting a fund-raiser tomorrow night to “celebrate” Zugibe’s first year as Rockland’s top prosecutor.
And the guest speaker will be New York State’s top prosecutor – Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, an old buddy of Rockland Democratic Party Chairman Vincent Monte, who once stated Cuomo’s dad, then Gov. Mario Cuomo, would run for president. That Monte prediction never made it off the airport tarmac.
Also being feted at the fund-raiser will be Bob Crable of Orangetown and Nat Oberman of Ramapo. Both will be receiving leadership awards for their long association with the Democratic Party and their chairmanships of their respective town committees.
Crable showed leadership – maybe not what some party leaders wanted – at this week’s party convention by urging a roll-call vote and looking to ostensibly help the insurgent Democrats in Ramapo who took over the party committee in the September primary vote from the forces loyal to Ramapo Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence. Monte had called off the convention. Crable’s action might make for some interesting talk over cocktails.
The $125-a-ticket dinner dance will be held at the Clubhouse at Patriot Hills golf course, 19 Clubhouse Lane, Stony Point. It’s starts at 7 p.m with cocktails, followed by dinner, dancing and speechs at 8 p.m.
