Ramapo Cop Doing Desk Duty

September
26

Rookie Ramapo Police Officer Baile Glauber, who has created quite a stir since  starting to patrol in June,  is doing temporary desk duty now after apparently  telling the brass she’s had a reoccurrence of an ankle injury.

Glauber’s ankle injury  first occurred at the beginning of her Rockland Police Academy training, causing her to miss nearly six weeks of physical training during the six months at the academy from January to June. She ended up meeting the basic physical requirements at the academy and graduating.

Glauber, like all rookies, is probationary and must patrol with an experience officer before she can go solo. She’s been patrolling with another officer since June, but not the Monsey or Hasidic Jewish communities.

She was assigned to desk duty this week, Capt. James Quinn said, adding he cannot discuss an officer’s medical issues. Glauber worked today,  Quinn said.

Glauber, a divorce mother with a 9-year-old son, doesn’t work the Jewish Sabbath – Friday nights and Saturdays – for religious reasons. She probably will seek the Jewish high holidays off, starting with Rosh Hashana on Monday evening.

Upon starting patrol duties in June, Glauber created an immediate stir at the Ramapo Police Department by asking for  the Sabbath off for religious observances – and getting her request granted immediately by the police chief on orders from the Town Attorney’s Office. She has received strong support from Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence, who has billed her as an example of diversifying the department to better reflect the Ramapo community. He’s cited her ability to speak Yiddish, a dominant language in the Hasidic community.

Raised within the Satmar Hasidic community, Glauber told the town she observes the Sabbath and Orthodox Jewish tenets, thought she is no longer belonged to the Satmar community. Academy officials did say she walked to classes during religious holidays.

Since her June request was approved, seven-year officer Ernst Tenemille sought and received the same days off because he says he’s an observant Seventh Day Adventists. His request was approved by the Town Board/Police Commission last week, during a meeting attended by the PBA president and up 50 officers.

As result, several dozen officers now plan to officially request days off and special schedules to meet their religious beliefs and personal needs.

Good Grief, good to see the familiar anti-semitism still exists in you. Plus, your off the mark insinuations. I don’t think any police officer deserves special consideration for religious beliefs. If they put in for a day off ahead of time, and are willing to work alternate holidays, etc. then fine.

When you become a police officer, you know that in times of holidays, weekends, etc. you have to work. Your duty is to serve and protect the public, not your own personal needs.

Oy Vey…....what the hell are you talking about? I simply quoted a paragraph from the original article. I then made a one line comment about St.Lawrence and the officer…..who reportedly have much more than an employee / supervisor relationship…...

  5. Nitpickin

Is she the only officer with an injury? Can we get a report of other officers with injuries? Is she singled out becuse she is Jewish? How many muslims are injured? How many Catholics are injured? Get a life.
