If you’re available Sunday, Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee invites you to attend her swearing-in ceremony as she begins to serve her second two-year term in the state Legislature.
The Suffern woman, who represents the 95th Assembly District, will be sworn in during a ceremony that starts at 2 p.m. in the new Technology Center at Rockland Community College in Ramapo.
Don’t worry, there’s more than just Jaffee placing one hand on a Bible and lifting the other in pledge mode. The assemblywoman has also scheduled some interesting guests. The Ramapo High School Jazz Ensemble will perform, and two poems written by Pearl River High School students will be read.
The 95th A.D. covers Orangetown and parts of Ramapo.
Jaffee’s annual salary is about $80,000.
Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony and all are welcome to attend.

I don’t get it…perhaps someone can fill me in. Why do these politicians throw a big celebration, inviting people, bands, and other dignataries for their swearing in? These people are nothing more than professional politicians..and this is something to be proud of that we should celebrate?
I don’t think so. Are these people so arrogant that they think people are so happy to see them back in office? Do they forget that they are the incompetents that can’t pass a budget and then when it is readied to be passed it’s loaded with cuts that effect US!!! Not their salaries, not their pension fund, not their health care, not their special perks. It’s the constituents that get screwed every time. We should now jump up and down and clap that this professional politician, someone of privilege is being sworn back in??? Somebody help me..what am I missing?
