Rockland GOP to gather tomorrow

June
8

The Rockland County Republican Committee holds its convention at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Nyack Seaport, 21 Burd St., said the party’s chairman, Vincent Reda.

The party is expected to nominate incumbent County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef, who is seeking his fifth four-year term. Vanderhoef, 60, has served since 1994.

Last week, county Democrats endorsed Thom Kleiner, 50, as their party’s choice for the county executive’s seat. He has served as Orangetown supervisor since 1997 and is in his seventh two-year term.

The Dems also nominated incumbent Paul Piperato for the County Clerk’s post, which he has held since 2005.

No word yet on whether the GOP will run a candidate against Piperato, who is popular with constituents on both sides of the aisle.

Right, C. Scott Vanderhoef
