Steve LiebermanSteve Lieberman joined The Journal News as an editor in February 1984 and became a reporter during the spring of 1986. He has covered police, courts and legal issues for more than a decade, after reporting on county, town, village and state governments and general issues. He received more than a dozen state awards for writing and reporting. Born and raised in The Bronx, he has lived in Rockland since 1988.

Sheriff’s Deputy Gets Certification

Rockland Hispanic Police Society Holding Fund-Raising Dance

The Rockland County Police Hispanic Society is hosting the 6th annual “Salsa into the Summer” dance fundraiser on Friday  from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Nyack Seaport, 21 Burd St., Nyack.

The fund-raiser will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rockland County.

Rockland honored about two dozens emergency medical services volunteers during its 5th annual recognition awards ceremony on Wednesday night.

Federal Prosecutors Visiting Yankee Stadium

Yankee Stadium in the Bronx is more than just the new home of 26 World Series championships.
The newly built stadium on 161st Street also “is a model of accessibility to people with disabilities.”

A fundraiser is being held tomorrow night for Matt Lupo of Stony Point, who was  partially paralyzed in an accident five years ago.

Appeals Panel upholds Spring Valley man’s drug conviction

A state appeals panel last month upheld the drug and weapon possession convictions of a Spring Valley man sentenced during 2006  to seven years as a repeat felony offender.

Horace Shackleford, now 27, will remain in Oneida Correctional Facility until December 2011 at the earliest.
