The dangers of being a code enforcement officer

April
24

I’ve received a couple of interesting responses to my follow-up story on the code enforcement officer who was stabbed last week in Clarkstown. (You can read the story at Lohud.com by clicking here). I’ve learned that in Nassau County, all of the code enforcement officers are sworn in as peace officers. Some feel the job really does come with a lot of serious hazards, despite what Clarkstown officials have said. There may not have been any major issues in Clarkstown in recent history, but the comments I’ve received indicate there are code enforcement officers in Rockland County that would like to see more protections in place.

I only had so much time to write the follow-up story but I really am curious about the dangers code enforcement officers face. The president of the American Association of Code Enforcement did not have any statistics on code enforcement. Does anyone have an anecdote to share about something that happened to a code enforcement officer you know?
