But not a lot. The county’s sales tax increase takes effect today. The sales tax rate jumped from 8 percent to 8.375 percent, meaning a shopper in Rockland will pay an extra 37.5 cents on a $100 purchase.


The sales tax increase was included in the 2007 budget to make up, in part, for last year’s sales tax revenue that came in under what county officials had projected. One-sixteenth of the money generated from the increase will go to Rockland’s towns and villages to defray police department costs.
