Some phone service that has been out since Monday and affected about 220 Verizon customers in the Orangeburg and Blauvelt area remained out today.
About 150 customers had already been restored yesterday with more expected today.
Blauvelt resident Melanie Garvey reported that her service was “in and out today.
In an e-mail, Verizon spokeswoman Heather Wilner, said all phone lines should be working by this evening.
“As of this morning, service had been restored to most customers and we expected the repair to be completed and service fully restored by the end of the day, she wrote.
She had said customers could call the repair number at 845-890-6611 to report issues or to receive a pro-rated bill.

Yesterday’s outages seem to be mostly fixed. Heather Wildner, a spokeswoman for the phone company, told me this morning that about 80 percent of those who lost service had regained it at some point overnight. The company had received calls from about 60 folks who had no phones. Some may have lost DSL service, too, but Wildner was checking on that this morning.
It looks like yesterday’s diagnosis of the melting snow and ice was correct, she told me this morning. The water got into a cable and wreaked havoc. Verizon had crews out overnight to fix the problem and the rest of the folks without service should get it back at some point today.
Did you lose service? Were you pleased by Verizon’s responsiveness? Let us know.
Also, customers can report outages by calling 845-890-6611.

Verizon is investigating a widespread loss of telephone service in the New City area. Heather Wilner, spokeswoman for Verizon, said about 60 customers had called to report outages since late this afternoon. Though no cause has been determined, Wilner said that water from melting snow and ice may have gotten into an underground cable.
She could not say when service would be restored but Donald Tirschwell, who lost service at his New City law office, said Verizon officials told him it could take until Saturday.
Customers can report outages by calling 845-890-6611.
